it's been a long time since i've blogged. haven't seen anything terribly weird or humorous, which is sad.
right now i'm thinking i just may melt in this heat. and that makes me sad, too.

so, i've been writing
at this site called helium.com. so far my articles are not the most exciting topics, but i'm writing what i know. anyways, the more views my articles get, the more money i earn. so, if you would be so kind to look at my articles, that would be lovely. if you want to read them, you could do that, too. but it's not mandatory. ;)

last weekend, well two weekends ago now, i went to san diego to be tortured. on purpose. it was a race across the bridge. you know, the very long and very steep one that connects san diego to coronado. and i knew it'd be long. i mean, i understand what 4 miles means. but i forgot how steep that thing is.

insane, right? well, i finished at 1:07, which while not great, was still ok. but there were crazy people there. like, as i was finishing the bridge, about 3/4 of the way through the race, there were people RUNNING back over the bridge. like, that's insane! and i got passed on the uphill portion of the bridge by a man carrying his 2ish year old daughter on his shoulders with the rest of his family trailing behind him, all running. instead of being shamed myself, though, i realized that they are the crazy ones.
it was fun, i wasn't too sore the next day, and i had a good time with my fam. so, yeah, it was torture, but it was fun, too

the kindness of strangers
today on the way home i heard a new noise from the front of my car. that is never a good thing. after half a mile of it not changing yet not really feeling anything wrong with my car but envisioning shredded tires that may soon spin me out of control, i pulled to the side of the freeway. other than that one time with the really bad accident with the semi, i had never really stood on the side of the freeway before. i would have preferred more space between me and the white line, but i waited until there was lots of space before another car would speed by and jumped out. all my tires were fine. but something was definitely making a weird noise, and it wasn't the engine. i peeked under the car. there it was. the thingy that is bolted under the car to protect all the important stuff under the car from getting hit by debris was half hanging down. was it the back half? no. no it was the front half that was drooping. i shoved it back up and into the plastic thing that it was originally bolted to, waited an extraordinarily long time to be able to get a break in traffic so i could get back in my car, but i finally made it. my plan was to head straight to the mechanic so that i could get a more permanent fix for my temporary solution. but, almost as soon as i began driving, i head the sound start up again. i had to go to the next exit, but there was a tow truck just waiting there. so i asked the guy for some help, and he was super nice. he just jumped right down and fought with the plastic things and shoved that piece of plastic much more firmly than i did. he refused all thanks and payment offers. he was really very sweet. and so i drove off, very happy that i had met such a nice person who was willing to help me out. then, just as i was getting back on the freeway, it happened again. the dreaded noise! i couldn't do much else but get on the freeway but get back off at the next exit. i typed in HONDA DEALERSHIP on my VZ Navigator and set out for whittier. at this point, all i could think of was, what if there's a dead animal in the road? in my lane? i'll just scoop the thing up and no one will ever want to fix this thing on my car ever because of animal guts. and then my car will smell forever. it was really going to be the ruin of my car. luckily, the only animal carcass i saw was in the other lane, so when i found the mobil station before the honda dealership, i decided to take a chance and pull in. the guy was working on a different car at the time, but stopped when he saw me pull up. he didn't speak english, and my spanish is rather fail, but with very little effort we were able to work out what was wrong and where i needed to move my car so he could fix it. i was prepared to wait awhile, but he set to work right away. he had a box of honda bolts there, tried a few to make sure he had the right fit, and then hammered them in. his boss came over and just talked the guy up the whole time he was working on my car. just what a great guy he was, and how you don't learn that, you're born with that kind of dedication and heart which was only enhanced by his great skills. after a few minutes he was done, asked only for five bucks. if i had made it to the dealership, you know that it would have taken at least an hour, i would have been charged at least 50 bucks, and i would have been told very nicely but firmly to take a seat instead of having a pleasant conversation. so, between the tow truck driver and the guys at the mobile station off workman mill road and whittier blvd, i can say that i truly rely on the kindness of strangers. thanks guys!

my morning surprise
this morning i awoke and got a shock when i looked in the mirror.

apparently the hives that enveloped me are a normal allergic reaction to the antibiotic i took. should be gone within a couple of days. i took that pic after the redness and swolleness had subsided a bit.
lesson: i will never get sick again so i don't have to take any meds again.
